Harlem Hellfighters

They dubbed themselves the “Men of Bronze,” but were nicknamed the “Harlem Hellfighters” by the Germans for their toughness. A regiment made up mostly of African Americans, they spent over six months in combat during WWI. And over that time, they never lost a man through capture, or a trench, or a foot of ground to the enemy.

The regiment would earn two Medals of Honor and many Distinguished Service Crosses.
